Kempie van Rooyen is a clinical psychologist currently in private practice with 18 years of experience as a clinician. He has previously served as both an academic and a civil service psychologist. His areas of expertise include traumatic stress, burnout, and adult personality.
Throughout his career, he has published two book chapters and three peer-reviewed articles, and has supervised eleven master’s research projects. Additionally, he has presented eleven papers at national conferences and eight at international conferences. His specific interest in perinatal care arises from recognizing the profound impact of early traumatic experiences and the protective role of healthy attachment in children's development.
Together with his wife, Melissa, he has a dedicated interest in helping new parents navigate the individual and systemic challenges involved in establishing healthy couple relationships after having children. They understand that when couples become parents, they bring a unique blend of family-of-origin experiences and personal personality styles, which can complicate and add nuance to the challenges faced during the transition to a new family structure.
